5th International Sports Film Festival Zlatibor 2016 Successfully Concluded

The 5th International Sports Film Festival Zlatibor concluded on Sunday, July 3, at the “Srbija” Congress Center in Zlatibor, with an awards ceremony honoring the best films across all categories.

The Festival Jury, chaired by Darko Bajić, film director and professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, alongside Marina Lapteva (Russia), founder of the “Planet of Love” festival of student and amateur film in Ulyanovsk, and Sima Brdar, film director from Republika Srpska, reached unanimous decisions on all festival awards and recognitions.

The official decisions of the Jury of the 5th International Sports Film Festival Zlatibor 2016 are as follows:

Sports Legends in Film Award was presented to “Handball Aliens”, directed by Jug Radivojević (Serbia).
The Jury unanimously honors the legendary handball players of “Metaloplastika,” a team that won the European Championship twice consecutively. The film impressed the Jury with its portrayal of both their athletic excellence and human greatness.

Best Cinematography Award was presented to directors of photography Tony Pierce Roberts, BSC, and Will Humphris for the film “The Rider”, directed by Sybil H. Mair (United Kingdom).
The award recognizes the refined visual depiction of the mythical relationship between man and horse.

Award for High Moral Values in Sport was presented to “Tapavica”, directed and produced by Ognjen Rakčević and Milan Todorović (Serbia).
The Jury commends the authors for their contribution to the culture of remembrance.

Best Short Documentary Film Award was presented to “The First Three”, directed by Arzu Uršan (Russia).
The Jury noted the film’s successful portrayal of how the decision for footballers to play during winter led to the emergence of ice hockey in the USSR and its development into a globally recognized sport.

Best Feature-Length Documentary Award was presented to “Erased from the Biography”, directed by Vuk Dapčević and written by Duška Jovanić (Serbia).
Through the character of Ljubica Otašević—considered one of the most captivating women of her time—the authors depict the highs and struggles in the pursuit of personal freedom.

Best Director Award “Dinko Tucaković” was presented to Jordi Llompart for the film “Barça Dreams” (Spain).
The film demonstrates how the highest values in sport can be nurtured. The director successfully channels the powerful emotional connection to a club into the broader achievement of building one of the world’s greatest teams.

GRAND PRIX – Best Film of the Festival was awarded to “Mikhail Tal – Sacrifice of the Queen”, directed by Marina Orlova (Russia).
The Jury singled out this film for its original directorial approach to the theme of sport, portraying in a dramatic manner the agony and ecstasy of a chess genius.
