2nd International Sports Film Festival Opens in Zlatibor
Serbia’s Minister of Culture, Bratislav Petković, officially opened the Second International Sports Film Festival on June 29 in Zlatibor, where 26 documentary films from 15 countries will be screened through July 2.
At the opening ceremony, the films “The Forgotten Grand Prix,” directed by Dinko Tucaković—whose name will, from this year onward, be given to the festival’s Best Director Award—and “Cross Country,” by Puriša Đorđević, were presented.
Minister Petković thanked the festival organizers for establishing the award in Tucaković’s honor.
“Dinko Tucaković was a great artist, and sport has always been a strong source of inspiration for artists. We will strive to ensure that this festival, also in his name, enjoys a long tradition and continues to promote both sport and art,” Petković stated.
Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented at the opening ceremony to Puriša Đorđević, Franjo Mihalić, Olivera Jevtić, and Ivo Daneu.
“I am very happy to be the youngest recipient of this recognition. I do not see it as the end of my career, but rather as acknowledgment of my achievements over the past two and a half decades,” said Serbia’s top female athlete, Olivera Jevtić.
Films from Germany, Turkey, Bulgaria, Russia, Sierra Leone, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Slovenia, the United States, Norway, Portugal, Ukraine, the Netherlands, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will compete for four festival awards: Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, and the Award for High Moral Values in Sport.
Serbia will be represented by “Requiem for Bobby Fischer,” directed by Igor Stevanović; “A Knight’s Diary,” by Zdravko Šotra; and “The Race of Life,” by Mladen Matičević.
The festival is organized by “Maja Film,” the Zlatibor Tourist Organization, and the Municipality of Čajetina.
